Migratory Routes and Global Citizenship

Diversity and (In)equalities

About

Aiming to discuss themes related to social and health vulnerabilities, the School of Health (ESS) and the School of Business Administration (ESCE) of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS), in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Center for History, Cultures and Societies (CIDEHUS), are organizing the 6th International Seminar on Social Vulnerabilities and Health, under the theme "Migratory Routes and Global Citizenship - Diversity and (In)equalities", which will take place on October 10, 11 and 12, 2024, in an online format.
In an increasingly globalized world, migrations are a complex and multifaceted phenomenon, permeated by challenges and opportunities. Individuals and groups, driven by diverse motivations, cross borders in search of better living conditions, safety and opportunities. However, the migratory journey is not always easy. Migrants are often confronted with situations of vulnerability, facing discrimination, xenophobia, exploitation and limited access to basic services. The social integration of these individuals in new contexts thus becomes a crucial challenge for contemporary societies. In this scenario, global citizenship emerges as a fundamental concept for the construction of a more just and equitable world. Recognizing the interconnection between the rights and responsibilities of all individuals, regardless of their origin or migratory status, is essential for promoting social inclusion, sustainable development and peace.
In this 6th edition, the seminar includes thematic panels with national and international speakers in order to give the seminar an international perspective, with the aim of expanding participation to new national and international authors with free communications in the thematic areas of the seminar.
This seminar is conceived as a space for interdisciplinary debate between History, other Social Sciences and Health, on the issues in question, its actors and social and political intervention around them.
Researchers and other professionals from various fields of knowledge, national and international, are invited to share their research and/or intervention practices.
